Properties and Synthesis of Passive Networks

In this chapter, we have described certain passive network properties. Emphasis has been placed on the lossless networks, because most passive filters use this class of networks. We have also described certain synthesis techniques of passive networks. These topics form the basic foundation of the filter-realization procedures in the next two chapters.

What is included in this chapter is only a small fraction of the theory of passive networks and their synthesis. Our objective here has been to set out just enough background for the purposes of their application to filter realization. There are numerous interesting related topics, the thorough treatment of which is well beyond the scope of this text. The reader is encouraged to consult other references on the general and pure treatments of these advanced, more specialized topics.
