Abstract

This chapter examines the management functions of progressing and controlling the siteworks. It links directly to associated Chapter 4, Planning and Programmes. Maintaining progress monitoring throughout the works and taking control decisions leading to positive action are fundamental in keeping the project on track to the planned programme. Key to progress and control is the concept of short-term planning which focuses on planning sections or stages of the works contained within the master programme and feeds progress information back from short-term programmes into the master programme. Also key are the practices involved in maintaining a progress chart which keeps the process ‘live’ and dynamic, and having procedures which record progress efficiently and feed information expeditiously into the monthly project progress meetings.
