Viscoelastic Behavior of Epoxy Resins Before Crosslinking

Abstract

A review of current viscoelastic studies is presented for epoxy resins before crosslinking. Epoxy resins are usually crosslinked with adequate curing agents and applied to various commercial uses as thermoset resins after crosslinking. Some epoxy resins, however, have been used without curing agents and treated as thermoplastic resins. The oligomers of the diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) are the most popular epoxy resins. This article summarizes and discusses viscoelastic properties, such as the melt viscosity, the dielectric relaxation time, and the ionic conductivity, for the uncured DGEBA oligomer on the basis of free-volume concept.
