Practical Considerations

The effective operation of any interactive system is achieved only if careful attention is paid to the ergonomics of the interface. Such factors as the physical layout of the workstation, the size and color of display screens, lighting, and the response time of the Interactive Image Processor (IIP) are all of great importance in ensuring that the user and the machine work together harmoniously. In this chapter, we discuss these issues and other diverse topics such as the recording of results, the use of fast hardware to accelerate the (image processing) calculations, and an “intelligent” processor to control the IIP.
