Abstract

With the introduction of new managerial concepts in the National Health Service clinicians are becoming more aware of the importance of keeping an audit. Having accurate and complete data available makes it easier to produce convincing arguments and to defend a budget. This is an area where computers should be of value but there are very few hospitals where a computerised system is used. This is largely due to a lack of software which is easy to use and to incorporate in the daily running of a surgical unit.
