Abstract

The speed of current computer systems can be increased either by increasing the speed of uniprocessor systems or by increasing the number of processors in a concurrent systems. The current hardware technology favors concurrent systems by making it more economical to provide high mips (millions of instructions per second) by multiple processors rather than uniprocessors.
