Abstract

Peptides with diuretic, natriuretic, and vasodilating properties have been isolated from mammalian atria, and subsequently sequensed and synthetized (1, 2). These peptides are secreted into the circulation during volume expansion and high sodium states, and in disease states such as congestive heart failure (3), renal insufficiency (4), and supraventricular tachycardia (5).
