Psychological Tests

Establishing the validity of a psychological test is a complex task, especially when the available validity criteria are themselves questionable. As Meehl (1977) stated, “Construct validity must be investigated whenever no criterion or universe of content is accepted as entirely adequate to define the quality to be measured” (p. 5). Because the psychiatric diagnosis of schizophrenic disorders is seriously flawed in and of itself, it is not fully acceptable by itself for developing test validity, though it may have an important guiding function, particularly in the early development of a test or technique.
