We recommend reading this chapter in parallel with Chaps. 16, 19, 21, and 25. Bullock (1993) generally discussed the psychophysiological function expectancy. The nervous system shows adaptation by preparedness in a variety of ways. This state can be passive and active; it comes from genetic factors and can be learned both for normal and unimportant input.
