The results of this book show that oscillatory generators are selectively distributed. Thus, upon excitation (sensory and/or cognitive), diffuse areas are activated. Accordingly, the existence of diffusely distributed parallel- processing alpha, theta, and gamma systems in the brain were hypothesized in previous chapters. As we have also often pointed out, the 10 Hz, 40 Hz, and 4 Hz enhancements in several distant locations cannot be explained with the phenomenon of volume conduction (see especially Chap. 17).
