Abstract

Classical physical models (e.g. the drift-diffusion model) are generally formulated as systems of coupled partial differential equations (PDE). In realistic conditions, the solution of such models requires the use of numerical techniques. The numerical treatment of PDE systems, and therefore of physics-based device models, includes two logical steps: the model discretization, and the solution of the discretized model. Such issues are reviewed in a number of reference books, e.g. see [35].
