This paper present a statistic model for ion clouds in Paul trap. In this model the collision between ions and molecules is a very important factor and space charge effect is considered by self-consist method. Given the parameters of a Paul trap, the properties of ion clouds can be obtained by this model without choosing physical parameters or changing trap parameters.

Once given the original condition, the ion’s motion is determined. The ceaseless collisions between ions and gas molecules erase the ions’ original conditions endowed at their origin. Therefore it would be impossible that at one moment all ions move in one certain direction.Google Scholar
