Breeding Winter Oats — Special Considerations
- 73 Downloads
Some aspects of winter oat breeding in the UK have already been dealt with in a paper presented at the EUCARPIA cereal section meeting in Weihenstephan in 1984(1). General areas covered included an outline of the evolution of the Aberystwyth programme, recent varieties released, and the encouraging progress being made in breeding for appreciably higher winter-hardiness and in the development of naked or huskless oats. The present paper restricts itself to presenting an account of our work on selection for yield in the early generations of the pedigree breeding method with special reference to the Aberystwyth winter oat breeding programme.
