Abstract

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is one of the common causes of increased morbidity and mortality in cirrhotics as well as non-cirrhotics. PVT can worsen the severity of portal hypertension in cirrhotic patients and may lead to liver decompensation. Previously TIPS was considered contraindication for cirrhotic patient with PVT because of the technical difficulties. Now, PVT in decompensated cirrhotics is one of the indications for TIPS procedure.
